頑 by the character iteself, it means "obstinate, stubborn; recalcitrant". In order for it to be "naughty", it must have another character to provide contextual information.
頑皮 = naugthy
頑童 = a playful or mischievous youngster

yeah friends ask me about how to write in whatever thing they want to know , when i wrote it out they seem be baffled to why it isn't 1 word like it's in english...hard to explain to them
i have a question: if the end of the box looking symbol is complete ... instead of outward does it make the word something completely different

I would really depends on the character.
I know someone with almost an identical tattoo. The only difference is that the bottom of the righthand element is just a closed box without the two diagonals. Is that a different character, or just an odd/incorrect way of writing this one?

Without seen it, I wouldn't know.
Wrong. The character in this sense most likely means ferocious, 凶暴, but you're right, it is most often used to describe recalcitrant boor.
