"Friendless"

This young man probably did not have a Chinese-speaking friend to verify the tattoo for him.

(friend) is missing a horizontal stroke.

Nice calligraphy though! He could still save the situation by getting the horizontal stroke added..

I only know Japanese - What do these hanzi mean?

Despite the missing stroke, those are some of the more attractive characters I've seen on your site. And it can be fixed. I'd say it's a triumph among hanzi tattoos...

The hanzi can be easily fixed, but those two phrases doesn't make much sense.

The coloration of the tattoos makes them somewhat interesting, but isn't it a sad commentary when a "misspelling" of a character is considered praiseworthy because it's a good effort -- if the shoe was on the other foot and the person had "fried" instead of "friend," I wouldn't think it was a nice tatt regardless of the calligraphy.
