Pinyin Info

Mark Swofford is the creator of Pinyin.info, a very detailed website about Pinyin (the phonetic notation and transliteration of Chinese characters to Roman script).

"Taking a character-by-character approach to translation tends to feed the monosyllabic and ideographic myths about Chinese characters, which are part of the misplaced mystique that leads many people to get these sorts of inappropriate tattoos in the first place. People thus also tend to think that characters are mix and match, which is not the case in real writing systems. For more on this, see the readings section of the site."

Well said, Mark!
